CTIT was set up about ten years ago to promote ecumenism in the town. All the Christian denominations are represented on the committee, which meets four times a year to organise a variety of activities which include:
a week of prayer for Christian unity;
a retreat day;
Lent groups;
the Good Friday march of witness;
fifth Sunday united worship;
Christian representation at the Mediaeval Fair; and
other activities.
We all work well together and have grown in understanding and respect for each other’s traditions. The commitment of all the members to ecumenism is evident and most heart warming.

There are 15 Ministers who serve the parish by assisting in the distribution of the Eucharist at Mass. The Extraordinary
Ministers of Holy Communion are re-commissioned annually at a special service.
Communion for the sick and the housebound is taken by Fr. Richard and
Deacon John. back to top
There are 20 Ministers of the Word who regularly read at Sunday Masses, including several children. The Ministers of the Word do not just read the set readings; they are proclaiming the Word of God.

As St. Joseph's does not have its own school, children can attend regular classes to prepare for Holy Communion and Confirmation. These are run by members of the Parish trained as Catechists.

At St Joseph's, there is a sung mass every Sunday and Holy Day, in
which the ordinary of the mass and the psalm will be sung, together with
a number of hymns.
A wide range of music is used in the Liturgy, encompassing plainsong to
the most recent compositions. We use more than a dozen mass settings
which enables us to select music to suit the Liturgical season: festive
settings for Easter and Pentecost for example, and more muted settings
for Lent.
A small group of singers meet regularly to practise the music for the
following weeks and lead the congregation in song. However, we are
fortunate in having a congregation who enjoys singing and who are quick
to learn something new.
If you enjoy singing or playing a musical instrument, we would be
delighted if you would join our group of musicians. Please come and see
us after mass. back to top
We do not have a rota for flower arranging as only a few people provide this service. They spend much of Friday evening preparing the floral decorations in the church. They have help from people who can come in to church during the week to spray and water the flowers. They are
very happy to welcome any volunteers.

There is a rota to cover the weekly cleaning of the Church, and a special cleaning effort is made before Easter and Christmas.
